With the suspicion of cancer, a phase of great uncertainty begins for many patients and family. Where will I find the right doctor? Which treatment is best for me? Those affected have a right to get answers promptly to these urgent questions. Indeed, an odyssey in search of the right doctor and care costs not only time and nerves, but also an extreme amount of energy.
For the doctor responsible for treatment as well, the time factor plays a considerable role: the faster a diagnosis is made and the more fitting the individual therapy is in a serious case, the better the chances are of recovery. These goals can only be achieved if all doctors involved work closely together in an interdisciplinary fashion.
Care from a “one-stop” source
Because of our over 70-years experience in fighting cancer, we are well familiar with the demands that affected individuals and their families as well as doctors make with regard to recognizing and treating cancer. We have expanded our medical knowledge consistently. From “next to each other” to “with each other”, from the organ-oriented to the disease-oriented diagnosis and therapy: these represent the objectives of our care network.
Under the slogan “everything in one site”, specialists from various medical areas cooperate closely here, practically door-to-door. As an oncology competence centre with in-patient and out-patient networked care structures, we are setting benchmarks for an optimal treatment quality.
Overview of our services
- In-patient and out-patient care with short routes:
We can carry out all cancer treatments both on an in-patient as well as out-patient basis. As part of the care contract, our services are naturally available for individuals insured under statutory health insurance plans too. The direct exchange between our clinic and the physicians in private practice nearby ensures prompt coordination in matters of in-patient therapy or the out-patient pre- and post-treatment. Our patients benefit highly from this close cooperation. - Interdisciplinary cooperation:
Our team of doctors work on an interdisciplinary basis. We offer the merged competence of radiotherapists, oncologists, internists, haematologists, gastroenterologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists and neuroradiologists. - Improved coordination in the entire treatment process:
Patients find short routes without time-consuming visits to multiple doctors at our clinic. We facilitate optimal coordination in our treatment procedures and thus shorter waiting periods. Given our cross-sector coordination “on site”, we are able to swiftly implement the treatment process and avoid the burden of redundant checks and tests. - Direct exchange of data:
A direct data linkage has been set up between our clinic and the Clinic for Neurosurgery of the University Clinic Bonn, one of our partners in cooperation. With the help of specialised software, important x-ray pictures can be exchanged digitally between both clinics. Neurosurgeon and radiotherapist are thus able to evaluate data promptly and discuss the treatment plan. For patients, both the amount of time and mental burden are thus reduced significantly. - Prompt evaluation of laboratory results:
We work in-house with a specialised laboratory. This cooperation enables a direct data-network for laboratory diagnostics and thus faster availability of results. We thus avoid long transportation routes, enhancing the treatment process as a whole. - Special Physical Therapy:
Our in-patients and out-patients are accompanied during or after a cancer treatment at the site by a physiotherapy practise with a focus on oncology and orthopedics. Specifically on the treatment of oncology trained staff offer a wide range of physiotherapy tools for supportive measures. The aim is, inter alia, the removal of direct treatment effects such as oedemas, reduced muscle strength and to strengthen the immune system. The physiotherapists coordinate the individual treatment plans in cooperation with the doctor team of radiotherapy and oncology. - Public pharmacist on site:
In addition to the classic services, Merlin Pharmacist is available for patients and family on the premises of the clinic as an oncology pharmaceutical info-centre. - Individual service around the clock:
Whether in- or out-patient, statutory or private health insurance: personal contact with our patients is very important for us. On account of our clinic’s size, we are able to interact with our patients individually. With a capacity for 83 beds, the “clinical mass operation” is excluded from our out-patient area. Patients and family have emergency services and on-call service at their disposal, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. - Support in continuing care too:
Through our close association with the MedClin Rehabilitation Centre (Reha-Zentrum) Reichshof-Eckenhagen, we can organise continuing and/or post-treatment for our patients easily and promptly. We likewise take care of – if necessary – arrangements for staying with hospice through our in-house social service.
