The MediClin Robert Janker Clinic stems from its founder, the radiologist and surgeon Professor Dr. Robert Janker.
Robert Janker started his medical career at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, where he began assisting renowned internists and surgeons. Soon after, he became the assistant to Henri Chaoul, head of the radiology department of the Surgical Clinic Munich, before following von Redwitz to Bonn in 1928 in order to build up his radiology department at his surgical clinic. In 1937, Janker founded a private radiology institute in Bonn, where he added a hospital ward after the war. Building upon that, the Janker Clinic was to grow into an effective specialised clinic, which has been part of the MediClin association of clinics since 1998.
On account of his exceptional academic merits, Janker was made adjunct professor in 1957 and then full professor in 1962 at the University of Bonn. Robert Janker is considered a pioneer in radiology. He researched in, among other things, the areas of radiological diagnostics of skeletal systems, X-ray photograph technology, luminescent screen photography, X-ray kinematography and radiotherapy. Additionally, Robert Janker worked on developing electronic image enhancement, X-ray television and mass x-ray screening.
His achievements, coupled with his kindness and humour, were occasion for numerous awards from national and international specialist societies. As former President of the German Radiology Society (Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft) and Professor of Radiology, Robert Janker remains an impressive role model to this day. The MediClin Robert Janker Clinic builds upon the tradition of this institution established over 70 years ago for diagnostics and treatment of cancer patients. The MediClin Robert Janker Clinic continues to be committed to the success and good reputation of its founder.
