Approaches to therapy

Palliative therapy is a directed treatment that is not based on the curing of an existing illness. It proceeds exclusively according to the will of the patient, in order to treat him/her as well and as gently as possible, to help him/her to feel no pain as well as to experience no fear or distress.
The palliative treatment options in the MediClin Robert Janker Klinik include the following offers:

• Palliative radiotherapy
• Palliative chemotherapie
• Palliative pain therapy

Palliative radiotherapy
Palliative radiotherapy targets the reduction of metastasis and growth. This makes a lot of sense in palliative medicine, especially when the tumor is located in a particularly bad position. For example, a closure of the rectum can be slowed down in this way. Our radiation systems, Novalis und Varian Silhouette, enable very safe, effective treatment that is gentle on the patient. Due to the extremely accurate radiation that is directed to a precisely defined target area, the radiation damage to healthy surrounding tissue can be kept to a minimum.

Palliative chemotherapy
It is the goal of this form of chemotherapy to slow down the spread of the illness and to alleviate the suffering of the patient. A course of chemotherapy can be combined with a simultaneous course of radiotherapy at our clinic. In most cases, the chemotherapeutics are administered at clearly defined intervals during the radiotherapy sessions. We take care to ensure that the least side-effects possible occur during this form of treatment. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for our patients.

Palliative pain therapy
Palliative pain therapy aims to alleviate the acute and chronic pain resulting from the symptoms of the tumor. The treatment can lead to a drastic reduction in the level of pain within weeks or days. This form of therapy is an option for those patients who have not experienced success with pain relief medicine or conventional radiotherapy.
